I don't bother with that, Leslie, because I'm actually deleting the
footnotes; they exist only for communicating with magazine contributors
(and, sometimes, with staff members here--where they are visible on
early-version printouts). My strip footnotes routine is part of a homebrew
routine for preparing Xy files for pouring in to QuarkXpress. At that point,
we don't even need to mark where the footnotes were. (North Atlantic
Publishing made--may still make--a commercial application for pouring Xy
files into Quark, but for what I remember was $1,500, I figured I could
write a series of CI's.)
