This might work: there's a "bi" setting that lets XyW show invalid format markers without generating an error. I don't remember the values, but you could experiment with df bi=1 and df bi=0. You can do this from the command line or in a printer/startup/settings file. The "bi" was an undocumented addition for a particular Xyquest customer who was having customization problems.
