Re: I need a new desktop computer -- Recommendations?

That's interesting, Kari, I didn't know you were using VMware for XP.
May I ask whether your VBox/W2K setup allows XyWrite to access the
host drive by letter? Its inability to do this when I was using was
what caused me to switch to VMware. (i.e., say your host drive, or a
folder on your host drive, has been assigned by Z:, can you get a
directory listing of Z: in Xy4?)

Jordan, You can have both installed, but do not try to run two (hardware-enabled) virtualization solutions at the same time. I would suggest that you try to setup W2K in VMware or VirtualBox, whichever you prefer. Both handle this well. And this setup is snappy, needs no activation, and is easily portable to newer (Win 8) or other platforms (Mac or Linux). I have three virtualization programs installed, namely VirtualPc 2007 for DOS/Win 3.1 and VirtualBox for W2K and VMware for XP mode (VMware even handles activation). I can run VirtualPc 2007 (not hardware-enabled) and one of the others (both hardware-enabled) at the same time without problems. And that reminds me: did you -- or someone else on the list -- say I can leave an already installed XP Mode in place, while trying out VMWare as an alternative solution, without concern about conflicts ? (This is on a different computer, running W7 x64.)
