But how is it at footnote placement? Xy4 tends to shove footnotes onto the
following page (or even the one after that), whereas Xy3 is superb.

To XyWrite group,

A possible solution to the Footnote wrapping problem in XyWrite 4.0 lies in the BT command.

Try using the following values:
BT=.75,1.3,.75,6.0 inches

If you need to adjust the margin at the bottom of the page, add or subtract the same amount to each
of the 4 values. for example:

BT=1.0,1.55,1.0, 6.25 inches  (adding .25 inches to each value)

If you have very long footnotes, the last value may have to be raised from 6.0 inches up to maybe 9
inches.
