Enter the ascii ten character in your program where it is needed. If, say, you were
searching for foo plus enter plus bar your program would look something like this,
with the function calls shown here within {squiggles}.

Since you mention long help I am assuming you're using the antique version of
XyWrite, thus:

{BC} se |foo{ascii10}bar|{XC}
