Re: attribute; new PCs

Why should one need an additional utility? Attrib.exe is part of Windows
(actually part of DOS, which is still there in 9.x). Or has Microsoft, in
its infinite wisdom, removed it from later versions?
If one has to upgrade hardware, why get stuck with a new OS you neither
need nor want? Buy from a mail-order dealer or a local clone shop (Three
Geeks and a Goat), and get it with NO OS installed. Just make sure you
get all the driver disks you'll need for your hardware (VGA card, CD
drive, modem, NIC and sound card if either or both are included) and that
they include drivers for your OS of choice. Then partition the drive (as
many primary partitions as you'll have OSes, plus an extended partition
for a logical drive for data), install the OS (Custom, so you don't get a
lot of stuff you neither need nor want), and you're good to go. Yes, it
takes time up front, and it no longer saves you much, if any, money, but
it's YOUR PC, not Compaq's or Dell's or IBM's.
