You can do a white background if you use a console window instead of
full-screen DOS mode -- but if you do this, the screen will FLASH in
full-screen mode. The chart is as follows, for white background in
console window, grey background with flashing text in full-screen mode (I
find it hard to edit flashing text):

240	black text on white/flashing background
241	dark blue
242	dark green
243	cyan
244	dark red
245	magenta
246	dark yellow
247	light grey
248	dark grey
249	blue
250	light green
251	light blue
252	red
253	light magenta
254	yellow (unreadable)
255	white (very unreadable)

All of you computer whizzes can figure out why the list stops at 255.
