CM line position in XyWin

In my day job as a copyeditor I'd never permit an author to publish a
passage as ambiguous as the one I wrote. I'll try again.

As I have it set up, XyWin shows two rows at the bottom of the screen. Each
of these rows (surrounded by a simulacrum of a picture frame) is subdivided
into two or more segments.

In my current setup, the first of these rows has (1) a small segment at the
left showing the current directory (i.e. current path), and (2) a much
longer section devoted to the Command line. The second row comprises (3)
the Prompt line, with three small blocks at its right-hand end which report
the status of (4) CapsLk, (5) Insert/Overwrite, and (6) NumLk respectively.

On my 15" monitor, segment (1) is about 4cm long, (2) 23cm, (3) 24cm, and
(4)-(6) 1cm each.

Because segment (1) is relatively short, it often shows only the lowest
(highest?) levels of the current path: that is, if my current path is
            c:\sony\mozart
all of that appears in block (1); if my current path is
            c:\sony\gesualdo
all I get in (1) is
            c:... \gesualdo
and if my current path is
            c:\sony\gesualdo\corresp
all I get in (1) is
            c:... \corresp

When I wrote "I would be very glad to lengthen that block, preferably at
the expense of the PRompt line", my ambiguous "that block" referred to
segment (1) -- that is, I'd be glad if I could see more of the path at any
moment. But I can't afford to have a shorter Command line (2), so I wish I
could set up a new configuration in which the first row carries nothing but
(2), the Command line, and the second row is shared by a longer (1), a
shorter (3), and (4)-(6) as now. As I read the manual and the comments in
XWSET.DFL, I can combine (1)-(6) in a single row but can't otherwise
rearrange or resize the segments.

But this is the most trivial of complaints. I'm sorry I brought it up.

Cheers
