Auto-Correction Beep

I'm trying to turn off the Auto-Correction beep off and/or the
Auto-Replace beep off. No matter what I do to modify the settings.dfl
file or change in the preferences inside xy, it doesn't work.

According to the xy 4 manual (dos), the settings.dfl can be modified
like any other file, so what am I doing wrong?
