I guess the XySearch engine is going to be in the repair shed for awhile,
until
Robert gets back and has the time to recover from that mishap . . . so I'm
not
going to refresh my memory that way by finding what we've previously said re
the relative merits of different filter sets. I haven't messed with the
StarOffice
suite (all half a Gig of it !), but I do have the Lotus SmartSuite installed
in
one partition. A couple of test conversions I've run so far, using its
built-in
filters, struck me as being as least as good as anything you're likely to get
out of
WordPort (probably better), *and they don't GPF on you*, which is already a
big improvement. This weekend, I hope to pick up that Corel WordImperfect
2000 cd at a local computer show. So, my filter collection will then be
relatively
complete, except perhaps for a few of the Hungarian ones. Any of these will
become incompatible at some point, as you say, but that's about the best we
can do.
