request for help: printer problem, Xydos 4.018 under Windows 98

Computer is on in HP 7030 with 40 MB RAM. Printer is NEC 860, which for a
couple of years I have used successfully for batches as large as 450 pp. The
Printer program is HPLJ-2.
Lately some corruption has crept in so pages after the first are overprinted.
P 1 is okay, but 2 emerges with 3 printed over it.
