RETURNS AS FLAGS

How can you use a (carriage return) as a flag in a program? There's an
example in the XPL book on page 2-5, but it is incomplete and doesn't work.
(It's missing an open parenthesis, for one thing). Using the space bar or
escape key is easy enough, but there are enough people out there who won't
bother to read the warning (even if it's on the command line!!!) and press
, which screws up the program I'm writing. Help!
