Thanks for the URL on that NYT reflection on Atex's pre-Xy. I was interested to see how late they adopted it. Britannica had it operating in 1978, having looked at the system in use at the Jehovah's Witnesses operation in Brooklyn. That was still the era of clean rooms for the mainframe.
