It depends on the programs, but as a general rule I would install both,
and use vDosXy only for XyWrite. There are even some programs that
cannot be run in vDos (like MS-Word 5.0 crippled by Y2K, it can only be
run under Virtual PC 2007 by turning the clock back).


And if you run many old programs, installing a true virtualization
solution might be worth the effort. It depends how you work, how you
want to interact with the legacy software. Virtual Box with Win2000 is
easy to set up, and provides very robust features. Virtual PC 2007 with
DOS and Win 3.1 is more of a challenge, but provides the best (most
compatible) environment for 16-bit stuff.
