I guess we are Neanderthals--
Write and edit in XyWrite 3+, run into Ventura 3 (DOS, running under XP),
print directly to a postscript file that Distiller grabs automatically and
produces a PDF for proofs (or finals for the printer).
It generally takes about ten seconds to output and create the PDFs for a
four hundred page book.

Why would anyone do it otherwise?

Just catching up with this thread.

I still write and edit everything -- newspaper and magazine columns,
newsletters, blog posts, correspondence -- in Xywrite 3.57 and then
convert
to Word as necessary. Only 20-30 of us from the list? I'd have thought
there were more of us.
