Help with TODAY

I can't figure this one out. I want to use U2's TODAY frame to put in the
date with the day of the week. TODAY works by hand, from the cm line, but
it only puts the day of the week and a couple of spaces in when I call
TODAY within a large. Since this only occurs in media res of a large
program, I added AUTOHIDE:
XPLeNCODE v2.0
b-gin [UNTITLED]
[JM_]2.AUTOHIDE[Q2_][JM_]2.TODAY

XPLeNCODE

The value of $DZ is Mmmmm d, yyyy

This is in U2 version 117, under XP.

Again, as a standalone program, this works fine:
XPLeNCODE v2.0
b-gin [UNTITLED]
[JM_]2.TODAY[Q2_]
-nd
XPLeNCODE

Is it a timing issue?
