XyWin now working! Microsoft solves problem shock!

In the interests of the XyWin community I must report that Xywrite for
Windows is now working again on my computer - and I have a Microsoft
expert to thank for it.

Because I had XyWin working on another computer I was able to provide Microsoft with a log of activity from both the good computer and the bad. These logs list every activity in the computer as it looks at files and the registry and does things that computers do. They are made by a MS facility called procmon.exe (downloadable from MS) - they are the successor to regmon and filemon which were independent utilities.

By comparing the two the expert determined that certain dlls were not being successfully called, and could be corrupt. The first step was to clear a cache, which was done by using RUN sfr /purgcache

And no further action was necessary! XyWin swung into action.

If the list wants I can provide the logs so that they are available for anyone else who ever has this problem and doesnt have the advantage of a computer with a working XyWrite.

Thanks for all your input, and I apologise for feeling obliged to actually praise Microsoft.

Paul
