Re: DOSBox-X version 0.83.8 released!

I'm responding to Wengier via this list, not knowing how else to contact him, with need for help with a non-starter issue on my mac running 10.15.7 (Catalina). After downloading from dosbox-x.com's Intel Mac section, trying to open the program results in the following error box:

There isn't any System Preferences Privacy/Security fix for this as there sometimes is for apps from non-apple developers. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi all,

The latest version of DOSBox-X (0.83.8) is now officially released. As a cross-platform DOS emulator, there are quite a few improvements in this new release compared with the previous version 0.83.7, such as support for TrueType font (TTF) output and on-screen text styles, support for ARM-based M1 Mac and macOS 11 Big Sur, clipboard pasting in macOS SDL1 builds, selectable host keys from the menu (Ctrl+Alt, Ctrl+Shift, etc), enhanced MODE command to change screen dimensions, and many more. You can find the DOSBox-X 0.83.8 release notes here:

Windows installer and Linux Flatpak packages are officially available to ease
the installation, in addition to other packages including portable packages for
Windows, macOS and DOS. You will find the official downloads for them from the
DOSBox-X homepage:

Direct download to the Windows installer (many thanks to Edward Mendelson for code-signing it):
dosbox-x-windows-0.83.8-setup.exe

And the official Linux Flatpak package is available from the DOSBox-X Flathub page:
https://flathub.org/apps/details/com.dosbox_x.DOSBox-X

As for macOS, there are now portable packages for both the Intel-based Mac and the new ARM-based Mac. You can find them from the DOSBox-X homepage.

Please check out the new release.

Note: Please set "output=ttf" (and optionally a TTF font of your choice with ttf.font option) for the TrueType font output. There are many cleanups since the test version I posted earlier. For the on-screen text style feature, please set "ttf.wp=XY" or "ttf.wp=XY4" for XyWrite. Also, as with the previous version you probably want to set "core=dynamic" and "cycles=max" in the config file (dosbox-x.conf) for speed.

Thanks a lot for your support!

Sincerely,
Wengier
