Your workaround is interesting. It does work, to the limited extent
described in your post, but at a price that you don't mention: the
spell-check function keys, F1-F6, are crippled during the spell-check!
At least, they don't work here. Still, your persistence is to be
commended.
In fact, the solution to your problem is simple. In the KBD file,
change
28=$X
to
28=Q8$X
Q8 is best known as the spell-check function that replaces the
questionable word with the highlighted word. But Q8 does double duty:
when a menu is displayed, it selects the highlighted item. By
prepending Q8 to your Enter key assignment, you get full spell-check
functionality AND you solve the problem of using the Enter key to
navigate through the menus. And you retain your alternate Enter
key|Helpkey functionality. Eat your cake, have your cake.
Pretty neat, huh?
