Re: Full-screen DOS Prompt on Vista (was I want to go geek .. and VPC?)

Hi all ...

I don't remember exactly what the error message I saw said .. I tried it on a demo in Best Buy, without talking to any salespeople (who were all very busy) .... but if it said "This system does not support full-screen" -- then that is the truth. If you can't use Alt-Enter and bring up full-screen the first time you open an MS Dos Prompt window in Vista, then IMO they are not SUPPORTing it ... grrr ..... Yes, the message is misleading. Without inside knowledge one gives up.

The DOS prompt (of course, in my case, for XyWrite) is the ONLY thing
keeping me from switching to Mac. (And I consider it defective without
full-screen capability. Better than nothing, but defective.)
I wish I knew the size of the market (all DOS legaciers). I've heard that
letters to the top can work wonders. "Dear MS-decision-maker. Please commit
to supporting DOS legacy systems fully. Forever. Thanks."

We had rumor and statements from, who, Circuit City salesmen?
NO! We had an "error message" that popped up on the screen of a PCrunning Vista, saying, in effect, "You cannot do that." But in fact one
can do it: Robert did it, the sales rep did it, and having seen how, I
don't doubt I could do it.
Here's the message from Marge Choate:"My source for my statement [about no full screen under Vista] was Ben
Armstrong's blog, Virtual PC Guy's Weblog, found via Google on keywords
'command prompt' and 'full screen.' "
That error message was written by M$ programmers and incorporated in the finished product sold by M$. That makes it a statement of M$.
