Hi Lisa,
Congratulations on your future Mac purchase. Are you going to get a
laptop (like a Mac Book) or one of the other standalone machines.
(Mac Mini, Powermac, etc.)
I have not tired Parallels either as it is for the Intel based macs,
and i am still using my six year old Powerbook to run Virtual PC,
under the latest version of OS X.
Since Apple moved to the Intel family of processors, there are a lot
of options for running Dos/Windows applications.
When you get your Mac I think you will also be able to get Bootcamp
it you want to make your machine a dual boot. (PC Mag recently gave a
very good review of running Windows on the Macbook.)
The latest version of Parallels which just came out can also access
your Bootcamp created partition, if you went that route. With
Parallels, as I understand, you can create a partition for both the
Dos and Windows OS and try either one and see which ones works
better. All I have heard is that the Parallels sw runs apps a little
slower than if they were running under Bootcamp.
Also, Citrix is coming out, if they haven't already with a client for
OS X running on the Intel machines. Their reputation is pretty good
as creating VM clients.
Also, finally, there is another option, CrossOver Mac, which enables
users to run their favorite windows app without having to have
Windows. (When i first heard of them, i emailed them and asked if a
Dos program (XY) would run under their program. They said that they
thought it should as they were supporting the Windows API in their
program. This is kind of a cool option as the program should appear
as just another OS X app.
Also, Virtual PC will not work on your Intel based Mac.
The OS X environment offers some interesting features to the Xy user.
For example, as PDF compatible Quartz is the basis for the rendering
system, a Postscript file is easily opened and converted to a PDF
file without extra applications needed, right out of the box.
Hope this helps!

I'm ready to bite the bullet and buy a Mac.
Has anyone tried running XyWrite with Parallels? If so, with what
operating system? I am trying to figure out what would be
optimal--MS-DOS 6.22 or some flavor of Windows. However I want to
avoid
the problems with running Xy on XP.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
