CG page 40. Generally, unless there's an "initial setting" versus "current
setting" distinction, VA and VA$ are synonymous, as with [$]XD. Occasionally,
however, they mean completely different, unrelated things, e.g. VADE (soft
end-of-line char) and VA$DE (1=DeFined block is closed|0=still open).
