Consider the following sentence "He knocked on the big green door" while it is the same as "He knocked on the green big door", this is not the way you would articulate it.
Well, no--it's not quite the same thing. The first example is simply a description of the door that exists: we are told that it's big and that it's green. To use the second example would imply that there were at least two big doors, one of which was green. To turn this into a "which/that" puzzle, consider: He knocked on the big door, which is green. He knocked on the big door that is green.
What gramatical rules govern the order of adjectives? Are there any?
