Robert,
Congratulations again. Thanks to your ansified XyWrite I can migrate to
Ventura8. At last! I am very happy. Ventura8/XyWrite ANSI texts are a
lot more readable than former XyWrite/Ventura 5 texts. Except bold and
italic markup, the rest of Ventura8 ansi text markup is now transparent:
every stressed capital vowel, quotation marks, em and en dashes, etc.
Brilliant! I can see and edit them freely in Ansi XyWrite.

Try this, it works for me:
EDITOR.EXE ,d:\path\ANSIUP.INT /e4000
Then double-check to see which INiTialization file actually
ran, using VA/NV $ST (it will be ANSIUP.INT,
guaranteed).
I discovered that after sending the message you quoted. Full stop.
A separate thing to do is to shell to DOS (DOS/NV), and run
MEM /C |MORE
and see whether EMS memory is actually being set aside for
your session.
No problem.
4194304 bytes EMS memory
16384 bytes free

I suppose W2000 don't have for DOS boxes support in ega.cpi for code
page 1252. Then 1252 code page is active but DOS boxes are not able to
draw the characters. Maybe I'm wrong.
So, pulling it all together: what aspect of "ANSIfied
XyWrite" is still unsatisfactory? It works very well for
me.
It works very well for me too. Let me continue my experiences and we'll
see. For the moment, the only areas where improvement would be welcome are:
- Conversion between standard XyWrite and ANSI XyWrite. We already have
ANSI2XY (Ansi to XyWrite). For the moment, I am using external programs
to convert standard XyWrite texts to ANSI, when necessary. Some time
ago, you explained that it's not a simple task. It's not urgent at all.
- ANSI Fonts for big monitors (my Eizo is 20") but, obviously, this
aspect is not related to your work. I am working now in full screen mode
with cp1252.fnt and it's OK. If we could find better ANSI fonts for DOS
boxes under W2000, beautiful. In windowed mode, ANSI versions of Siebert
big fonts would be welcome.
Best regards,
