Sage advice, and a long familiar principle. For example, there
are known, recurrent failures in broadband service (e.g., squirrels
who like to chew on cables) that happen well outside of your location.
Your provider would like to blame this on something else, most
likely YOU. Or maybe it is just the typically clueless Tier One
Tech Support that will. Any excuse will do. In this situation,
if you are a Linux or an eCS user, the *last* thing you want to do
is to mention that. (Mac you might get away with, but don't place
any bets.)

And your printer manufacturer does not want to hear anything about
Xy. ("WHAT ?!") But anyone on this list knew that a long time ago.

For a piece of hardware that fails, probably the less info you
provide, the better.
