Sage advice, and a long familiar principle. For example, there are known,
recurrent failures in broadband service (e.g., squirrels who like to chew
on cables) that happen well outside of your location. Your provider would
like to blame this on something else, most likely YOU. Or maybe it is
just the typically clueless Tier One Tech Support that will. Any excuse
will do. In this situation, if you are a Linux or an eCS user, the *last*
thing you want to do is to mention that. (Mac you might get away with,
but don't place any bets.) And your printer manufacturer does not want to
hear anything about Xy. ("WHAT ?!") But anyone on this list knew that a
long time ago. For a piece of hardware that fails, probably the less info
you provide, the better. Jordan
