FIND won't work with XY4 and XYWin

(XY3.57, XY4.018, XYWin under win98SE) I only discovered the FIND command
recently - using it in XY3 was fine but it won't run under XY4 or XYWin.
When I launch it, I get a message on the status line telling me it is
working and that is that; the program hangs. I've tried exiting windows and
running XY4 from DOS. The same thing happens, except that this time the
disc chugs away for about one minute first. Has anyone else experienced
anything similar?
