Re: Win 8 v. Win 7

I was initially reluctant to take Kari's advice on W2K, but I am glad
I did. It is a much more satisfactory experience, as a XyWrite
engine, than XP. The sheer peace of mind you get from avoiding the
activation requirements and bugs in XP is more than worth it.

into Parallels or VirtualBox. W2K iso files can be downloaded from many places, but you can get a legal copy for $15 from Ebay. W2K needs no activation, so it is well suited for virtualization use. You can try it on different virtualization platforms and have multiple instances tailored to different needs without activation hassles. Thanks to everyone for the great advice. I am seriously considering spending around $600 on Lenovo with Win 7 Pro (64 bit) and XP Mode already installed (available through their web site). But the temptation of using this as an excuse to buy the Macbook Air (about double the price) I've been hankering after is strong. I've switched to Mac for just about everything else. What's stopping me, in addition to cost, is the issue of loading XP onto Parallels, as I don't have an XP disk.
