Nonsense. An e-mail address costs nothing. And I'd venture that
public libraries in Putnam County, NY (1999 median household income
$72K) provide Internet access. Even if he can't take his computer
and printer to the library, it'd still be more efficient than
debugging by snail mail, or by phone (no picnic, if you've ever
tried it). Of course, he may be housebound....

Look, I'm sure this guy is an affable fellow. I hope he gets help.
And I don't fault Dale for trying to get it to him. A game of
telephone doesn't seem well calculated to get him up and running.

P.S. If he can print in Xy4, but not in 3, that strongly suggests
that he's loading the wrong printer file, or no printer file, in 3.
Brian's Xy3 printer file page,
http://www.xywrite.com/xy3/print/xy3_printer.htm, doesn't have a
PRN file for the IBM 4039, but maybe the one for the 4029 or the
4072 might work; one of the files listed in the IBM section of that
page almost surely will work. We just need him to copy out his
STARTUP.INT longhand, so that one of us can scan it and post it to
the list....
