Leslie, re your:
< For Der Billmeister that's chump change. Besides, it's for the wrong
reasons.
< - anybody's gonna go out and get WordPerfect or another competitor.
< I'm using Netscape, BTW.
in the DOSix Hoax thread.
Until folks really start tuning their systems so they work for them in
(measurably) the best way possible, it really does not make a whole lot of
difference what kind of software they use. Right out of the box any of the
main line systems are probably better than old typewriters, maybe even
better than dedicated word processors (remember NBI, Lexis, etc.)
On the other hand, when you do tune the software to your working style and
idiosyncrasies, as some of us have done with XyWrite--and still cannot do
with WP or Word--the working capacity is really outstanding. Its just that
it could be so much better if there were truly seamless integration between
our writing and reference programs.
I work with the Oxford English Dictionary, Encyclopedia Britannica, Encarta
Encyclopedia and Atlas, and Microsoft Word always open at the same time. I
would sure like to avoid the extra steps required to work with those
resources as I work in XyWrite.
And then of course there are the assignable windows in XyWrite. You can put
stuff in them and it stays there. Couldn't live without it--as well as
dialing telephone numbers off the screen with two clicks.
Maybe some day.
