That was XP the operating system, not XP the function. I am NOT recommending
XP the OpSys!!! I think it's immensely wasteful of memory, keeping your whole
running system in memory just so it can load a bit faster -- ridiculous. For
now, if compelled to use Windows, my choice would be Win2000 Pro SP2. Avoid the
pocket calculators (9x and Millennium Ed), they're total junk.
Why not just buy a new battery for your notebook? Otherwise, buy a ThinkPad.
Costly, but they work. Best support of any manufacturer, and the standard by
which other notebooks are measured. When function (and other) keys don't work
on a notebook (which is most of the time, especially with old DOS programs that
think they know how to manipulate the hardware keyboard controller directly),
plug in an external keyboard -- overcomes a lot of problems.
