AUTO-REPLACE

I'm fascinated by the controversy over the result of the legal problem over
auto-replace. It's a useful feature for many, a curiosity for others.

If you're in the former camp--and especially if you're one of the
incensed--how are you using auto-replace? Why is it so useful to you?

(Please--this is NOT meant sarcastically. I--and I think others, too--
would like to know better why this become such an issue.)
