Could that be the solution? Start the Win program from a batch file
launched from Xy? After it issues the Start command, will the batch
file back off quietly and hand control back to Xy, or will it wait
until the launched Windows process also terminates? That's the
question.

Wish I could run a test, but I'm at home and NT is at the office.
