By "footnotes," do you mean footnotes or endnotes? I had assumed that the
problem was just when they were specified as endnotes, in which case they
definitely do not print correctly when one tries to chain print: the
later notes of chap. 1 print at the middle of chap 2 and so on. Now I
agree, I don't like footnotes, as opposed to endnotes, so I'd suggest
using footnotes _until everything is done, then_ cutting them to a
separate file, and chain printing, e.g.,
ch01txt.txt ch01nts.txt cho02txt.txt ch02nts.txt
and so on.
But are you saying Xy chokes even with footnotes when they get above a
certain number? Because I just pulled up a couple of old files from some
years back--4,880 words, 92,351 K, and 85 footnotes; 9078 words, 173,411
K, and 50 footnotes; and 5,945 words, 99,708 K, and 105 notes--and was
able to scroll though them quite nicely (and with my e-mail app up at the
same time, something I usually steer clear of). If you cannot have more
than 24 notes, that's a different kettle of fish. How big (word count, K
listing from a DIR or Explorer/MY Computer details listing) a file?
Running in a Window or full-screen? How is RAM apportioned in the Xy pif?
OpSys? How much physical RAM? I've been trying to find your previous post
on this, but no luck.
