Rather than use the mode commands, you could use a numerical mode that shows
up on-screen. The command is identical: MD ## where ## is any number.
 Experiment to see what will change the color on-screen. And beware that
some of the numbered modes will actually print something different from NM!

Another thing to try: LB commands. You could simply label the beginning and
end of a comment by typing F5 and then LB Yourname and Enter. Leave it there
on the command line and hit F9 whenever you want to label the beginning or
end of your edit.

You may want to use LB anyway to leave each other notes and comments that
won't print in the final copy. Works in both Xy3 and Xy4.
