re So xy will be around tomorrow

Kenneth Frank and Nathan Sivin:

I'm relieved to know that I'm not the only one still learning
xyWrite. Dan Kanagy pointed out yesterday that the DH default lets you
designate a character other than the tilde as a discretionary
hyphen. Dan uses xyDos 4, and after reading his msg I changed the
default successfully with v 3.56 but not v3.52, which indicates
how long the option has been available.

The character you designate behaves as the tilde would by
default, and the tilde displays as a normal character. To see it
work, with no file displayed, execute, e.g.:
   d dh=^
Open a file and insert some carats in long, unbroken words after
line breaks, and elsewhere type a couple of tildes.

Until the ascii 26 problem is resolved, it wouldn't be a bad idea
for TTG to put an eof-zapping utility on the bbs with xpl code to
integrate it. I still occasionally use a utility Xyquest provided
that converts LFs in imported files (which look but don't behave
like LF/CRs) to LF/CRs.

And, Ken--about mirroring the TTG bbs archive to a Simtel or
other Internet site, another suggestion Nathan endorsed ...??? It
would be a real service to customers to make it possible for us
to get to those files without having to make a long-distance call
to Baltimore. Some of us must pay those toll rates out of our own
pockets. --Annie
