Getting date
Harry:
Elementary questions are my specialty.
Rather than join the "What Version?" chorus I'll just send out my answer
for XyDos 4 and hope it works for you.
, the obvious candidate for what you want to do, isn't documented
and doesn't seem to work, giving an error if you try to use it in a
program. But it _is_ part of the answer.
The trick is that you must specify the date format for to tell you
anything--see your Command Reference under the DA command or your
Customization Guide under the DZ default setting for the full syntax. Here
are two tiny programs that run fine for me on XyDos 4.017; see if they work
for you and take it from there. (Angle brackets stand for guillemets.)

(Puts "May 16, 1998" into volatile s/g 10 and then onto the prompt line.)

(Does same with "980516"--a potentially handy form.)
I used a volatile memory # in my examples but any programming s/g will
work.
Good luck.
