Re: Settings.dfl

Robert:

You are swiftly recognizing the limits of my understanding of XyWrite --
You canNOT open an EXEcutable file (a binary file) like CLIP.EXE (I'd never
heard of binary files) -- and my propensity to make mistakes -- you canNOT
Paste these kinds of files into the msg body!

Nonetheless, you have swiftly unearthed a major reason, possibly the major
reason, that the U2 program in my computer is defective -- *Attach* your
STARTUP.INT, XY4-3.KBD, and XYWWWEB.REG files to a single message --
When I went looking for my registry file, it turned out that the XYWWWEB.REG
file in my XY4 program was the original John Doe version. The edited version
had disappeared from the XY4 folder and also from a XYWRITEBACKUP
folder where I had stashed copies of all the V119 programs. (I've no idea how this
happened.)

The good news is that I have a hard copy of the edited XYWWWEB.REG program,
and should be able to recreate it fairly quickly. What I would suggest is that I
substitute the edited .REG for the John Doe .REG, also substitute the
SETTINGS1.DFL you provided for the existing SETTINGS.DFL , and then see what
happens.

All of the external utility files are in place.

Should I proceed?

John

Yikes, John. You canNOT open an EXEcutable file (a binary file) like CLIP.EXE
in XyWrite, period. Never. Your SETTINGS.DFL is all screwed up. You have
many duplicate and nonsensical lines, like: two identical PP specs; DF EH=0,1
(which is nonsense, it's either 0 or it's 1 -- make it zero!); DF 1A, D1, FZ,
and ZC without values; naked lines that aren't commented and do nothing; etc.
Revised DFL is attached -- use this one, and let me know. It may not be
error-free (I simply don't have time now to look carefully), but it's a helluva
lot better.
*Attach* your STARTUP.INT, XY4-3.KBD, and XYWWWEB.REG files to a single message -- you canNOT Paste these kinds of files into the msg body! Maybe I can figure
out what's wrong with your Clip setup.
HELP CONTENTS (or HELP IDX, HELP INFO, HELP INFORMATION) will give you
a list of all frames in U2 (all programs). To get specific information about
_one_ frame (program), command e.g. HELP CLIP.
