XYDOS AND XYWIN
NS-> Nathan Sivin
NS-> I was curious about AB too, but looking into it reminded me that the
-> same two letters may be quite different as a command, an XPL (and
-> keyboard) function, and a default. I have not yet compared defaults,
-> but there are more differences. There are some intriguing differences
-> in commands, mostly in the direction of added functionality in XW.
-> For instance, if you have a setting of TS.25in,2IN,4IN you can set a
-> hanging indent to the third tab, at 4 inches, with IP0,@TS3, which
-> will of course change automatically if you change the 3d setting in TS.
Nathan,
I haven't had the chance to check out Xywin as thoroughly as it
deserves (even though I had it a number of months)--at least not
till I got my hands on the Xy 4 documentation.
But I'm more and more impressed at how much there is in it and
its DOS counterpart. What I'd like to do is recast Xywin's
menu-command structure into my own working habits. For example,
all word processors have one search and replace item, but why not
have a set of at least three? Since TTG has been good enough to
leave the commands in XPL, it's entirely feasible.
I would only wish it would adopt Monotype's solution to extra
character sets (via its Font Mixer) rather than its own unique
character set.
