Re: xywrite and postscript

I use XyWrite 4.017 with an HP Deskjet 540 for which no native Xy driver
exists. My solution is to load an HP Laserjet 4 (I believe) Postscript
driver, print to file, then call GhostScript to interpret my .ps file and
send it to the printer. It works great, despite the fact that the Deskjet
wouldn't know Postscript from a hole in the wall.

Actually, in my case, its more complicated than that. I run XyWrite in an
OS/2 DOS window and so do not have access to the "graphic" mode that is
supposed to show you what your final printed document will look like.
Instead I invoke a macro that first prints to file (PS format as explained
above), then uses R. Holmgren's XyWrite-OS/2 shell to call GSView, a native
OS/2 front end to Ghostscript that nicely displays Postscript files on
screen. Once satisified that I will get what I see, I print using GSView.
Quitting GSView takes me back through the OS/2 shell and into XyWrite. Works
great, less filling.
