It's been suggested to me that in addition to ShadowProtect (which I'm buying today), I should consider establishing a second backup in the cloud -- a belt-and-suspenders approach.
Does the list have any thoughts about the pros and cons of saving files in the cloud?

Your bad experience is a common one. I haven’t looked at the Acronis user groups for a while, but that was one of many complaints about backups that didn’t back up or couldn’t be restored. I think you will be very pleased to switch to ShadowProtect.
