I'm pretty sure that you can do an installation this way. I would recommend
that you one of the Linux mailing list, and post this question there. I
recently joined the Yellow Dog Linux mailing list (Linux for Mac) and they
were able to provide me with the specifics for installing Linux, in a
specific configuration.

I'm unclear as to if you mean that you plan to still have dos installed or
whether you want to have xywrite run under a dos emulator on Linux? I
haven't tried this, so i can't say, but i do know that there are supposed to
be some very good pc/dos emulators available!
