Kari,
I ran into a situation where a later version of Acronis came out around 6 - 8 weeks after I had
just bought the previous version. I wrote about this to customer support, and they upgraded
me to the later version, gratis. I don't know whether that could work for you, but it seems
likely that a later version would have made peace with Win 10 already. In any case, a version
upgrade price for existing users should be noticeably lower than the fresh purchase price.

Phil,
No, I did not. Somehow this is probably related
to the recent Win 7 volume-license bug
(https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4487266/activation-failures-and-not-genuine-notifications-on-vl-win-7-kms-clie).
The educational edition had two licenses tied to one key. Anyway, I got
tired of all this and bought a license online, and it worked ok. Case closed.
As for backup, I bought a couple of Acronis 13 licenses for a
farthing that work with Win 7 machines but
not on Win 10.
Best
regards,
Kari Eveli
