Manuel,
It seems that I was too rush to skip CP850. While we are working on 
adding better support for CP437 as the default, you will be able to use 
CP850 to produce Portuguese, etc. It will print ok, when the correct 
character codes are there, and show ok as till this day.
So, when CP 850 is activated:
ã 198 Left box side single to double => prints a tilde
à 199 Left box side double to single => prints A tilde

õ 228 Sigma capital => prints o tilde
Õ 229 Sigma small => prints O tilde
This was a good question, and maybe this can be incorporated somehow in 
the menus.
