Actually some of the higher-end so-called "gamer" keyboards are good
for word processing, if you can manage to turn off the ubiquitous and
ridiculous color-cycling back light. Please note, I'm not a gamer
other than the odd on-line game of chess.
They are generally programmable to some degree, solidly built, with
mechanical switches, a great tactile feel and just the right amount of
key travel (not too shallow like the membrane keyboards, not too deep
like an old mechanical typewriter). They are typically loud, too,
something I actually appreciate (although it is not appreciated by
others nearby later at night).
I am using one with the pretentious name "Razer Black Widow." Despite
the name, it's fantastic and is likely to last a few days short of
forever. It was pretty expensive as keyboards go, but then a keyboard
is really important if you're doing a lot of writing.
Of course it has a plastic body, not one of the good old metal bodies,
but you can't have everything!
