I remember those days (and earlier: started with XyWrite in 1980 (or 81?) and had many phone conversations with Erikson about bugs and about my desire for footnotes AND endnotes). When Signature came out I was using OS/2. As a Xy user I ignored the menu system, but as I recall XyQuest didnt want a menu system and IBM insisted so XyQuests heart wasnt in it. A pity about OS/2. > On May 31, 2024, at 4:59⬯AM, Kari Eveli <lexitec@xxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > > Edward, > > You are right about this. For example, NB3 menus have all kinds of amenities in the search and replace area but Signature does not. What works in this case is the Signature command line, and it was carried over to XY4 more or less as is. The difference of Signature and XY4 menu structure became evident to me when I tried to make a mini-service pack for Signature (e.g. Options, Insert Other, Special Character, Accented Characters, etc.). The menu code is less developed and different. > > Best regards, > > Kari Eveli > LEXITEC Book Publishing (Finland) > lexitec@xxxxxxxxxx > > *** Lexitec Online *** > Lexitec in English: https://www.lexitec.fi/english.html > Lexitec English and Finnish dictionaries: https://sk.lexitec.fi/en/ > Home page in Finnish: https://www.lexitec.fi/ > >> One problem with Signature was an incomplete menu system. If I remember correctly, you could insert a footnote from the menu, but, if deltas were not visible, a beginning user wouldn't have a menu-driven way to remove a footnote after inserting it. At least this is what memory reports from ancient history. >
