Im now using a MacBook Pro M4 Pro (48GB memory) thanks to the ever greater demands of Photoshop et al. My intro to computers was via XyWrite II+ back in 1983 or 84. $300 on 5.25 inch floppies. The manual became my bedtime reading for weeks. Some of those keystrokes are still burned into my brain, and I still havent found anything that can handle everything done by Save/Gets. Edwards links to prebuilt systems for Xy4 under macOS encouraged me to check out Xy in my new computer. The last time I tried using Xy4 with a DOS emulator I ran into a flashing screen, trouble with function keys and trackpad issues. It didnt seem worth the trouble since I have NotaBenes setup for Mac. The DosBox-X system installed without a hiccup. (As is often the case, I had to tell the Mac security system to open the installer file in spite of it not being properly signed.) Xy4 loaded *very* quickly, and all of the basic functions seem to be there. F5, F10, F9, SE, dos, ... Hurrah. Scrolling is fast and smooth, page up and down is fast, as is searching. At this point Id say it feels faster and smoother than NB in its current macOS setting (which is not bad at all). Ill see if I can find my modified keyboard file, or reconstruct it, and then see how well it functions for me as a word processor, or at the very least as a text editor. There was a W4W RTF translator, wasnt there? I see W4W files in the Xy4 installation, but they dont appear in the File/Open menus. Its been decades since I fiddled around with the menu system. Thanks to all who have helped keep Xy alive.
