Note: I'm using "T/OT" in the Subject line to mean "Tangential/Off-Topic" -- although given the recent discussions prompted by Xyghost, maybe it should be read as "Tangentially On-Topic". I've spent four or five hours over the last couple of days making my first foray into "vibe coding" with Claude. The experience entailed none of the mental effort and stimulation of coding by hand, but was gratifying nevertheless -- and actually pretty amazing. I've been developing a lightweight note-taking app for Windows, with a feature that's near to my heart: the ability to run Windows commands by typing the commands in the note itself, with the option to insert the command output into the note. The app is an 87KB Python script, which I've made available here: https://ammaze.net/xywwweb/dls/quicknotes.py To try it, save the script to a directory of your choosing and, at a Windows command prompt, enter "start python quicknotes.py --portable". In the menus, Help, Usage displays a detailed help screen. The requirements are Windows, with Python version 3.9 or later installed (ideally from python.org -- the official installer). It's a work in progress; I have a number of additional features in mind. The amazing part of the experience has been debugging the code interactively with Claude. Its (his?) turnaround was very fast, and when the error was my fault it was quite adept at tracking down what I was doing wrong. Nothing like coding yourself, but still... -- Carl Distefano cld@xxxxxxxxxx
