Carl,This may seem to be the way to go taken into account the cross-platform emphasis of the project. A Windows user has, however, many capable programs that modify and extend keyboard facilities in text editors, e.g. AutoHotkey, KbdEdit, etc. Hardware programming like in Cherry keyboards can overcome the Windows/Linux barrier. Nowadays, KbdEdit supports even Mac keyboards. Taking over the keyboard like in XyWrite is not the only way to achieve non-standard key assignments. It is a bit old-school, in my opinion.
