Honestly! You humans. My Sainted Sister has a few months to live...it is beyond sad and difficult for me. But I am in NC doing what I can. She always said I have "the vision thing." I'd cop to "semi-vision." In any case, she was a gifted copy editor. I'd slave over and article and...oh, it is just perfect now. Would you read it? Happy to. She is beyond a friend because she is my flesh and blood. So, I'd sent it to her. A bit later I'd get a question from her: On page two, who is "they?"
Wha? I'd look and..I'm not sure.Well, I have been sorting her stuff out. For charity and trash. All of us have large book collections. Our parents had a whole bunch of books. I do too. But what interesting books she had. I was surprised by two books on TCP/IP. That is more my kind of things. But all sorts of books on copy editing for example.T These kinds of detail that I always thought she did but I didn't. Years later, under sober reflection, I look at some of the stuff I have published and I can't believe I wrote things of the lapidarian detail that I actually did. I fancy I must be in the running for a Nobel for my work in fighting insomnia. Sadly, the sweatshirts arrived the day after I left. And, natch, the weather turned and the perfect thing to wear is sitting in Huntsville. I am going to read this again in a few days when back in HSV with a cuppa in hand. Is this Tshirtable?
BTW, it is "pernickety" not "persnickety." He said pernicketly. Bob On 2026-10-23 14:49, David Auerbach wrote:

There are literally thousands of LaTeX packages that do anything you can imagine. I've typeset many books with LaTeX, some of them quite long and complex with hundreds of diagrams and graphics. I've learned to do book jackets and covers with LaTeX. But I've been doing this for years and years, and there's a reason why full-time professionals (I consider myself only semi-pro if that) mostly use InDesign; LaTeX typesetting is time consuming. I have now looked into Typst and read opinions --- it is much much easier to use but at this point doesn't have the vast variety of packages accessible with LaTeX. So I think the bottom line is that Typst is as good as LaTeX, and much easier to use, until you get into projects with really complex and specialized requirements. And as a final note--- I simply feel obliged to add this non sequitur---- Word is NOT a typesetting program. Bob Newell Honolulu-h1David Auerbach auerbach@xxxxxxxx
